Introduction and precautions of polyphosphoric acid

Time: 2025-06-04

Polyphosphate is a colorless, transparent, viscous liquid that is corrosive and belongs to the category of bipolar inorganic acidic corrosive substances. Polyphosphate is a protonic acid that can dissolve various low molecular and high molecular weight organic compounds. Used as a dehydrating agent, cyclizing agent, acylating agent in organic synthesis, it is a catalyst or solvent for condensation, cyclization, rearrangement, substitution and other reactions. Sometimes polyphosphate esters (PPE) are used to increase the solubility of polyphosphate in organic solvents. In addition, polyphosphoric acid is also used as a substitute and analytical reagent for orthophosphate.

Safety instructions: S25 is to avoid contact with eyes; S45: If you experience an accident or discomfort, immediately seek help from a doctor (preferably with the product container label); S36/37/39 is to wear appropriate protective clothing, gloves, and use protective goggles or face shields.

Hazard category code: R34 can cause burns.

Health hazards

Invasion routes: inhalation, ingestion, transdermal absorption.

Health hazards: There is limited information on the health effects of this product. Skin or eye contact may cause burns. If inhaling vapor or mist, it may cause irritation and damage to the respiratory tract.

Emergency response to leakage

Evacuate personnel from the contaminated area to a safe zone and prohibit unrelated personnel from entering the contaminated area. It is recommended that emergency responders wear gas masks and chemical protective clothing. Do not come into direct contact with the leaked material and seal the leak while ensuring safety. Absorb with sand, vermiculite or other inert materials, and then collect and transport to waste disposal sites for disposal. If there is a large amount of leakage, use embankments to contain it, and then collect, transfer, recycle or dispose of it harmlessly before disposal.

Protective measures

Respiratory protection: When there is a possibility of exposure to its vapors, it is necessary to wear a gas mask or gas supplied helmet. It is recommended to wear a self-contained breathing apparatus during emergency rescue or evacuation.

Eye protection: Wear chemical safety goggles.

Protective clothing: Wear work clothes (made of anti-corrosion materials).

Hand protection: Wear rubber gloves.

Other: After work, take a shower and change clothes. Store clothes contaminated with toxic substances separately, wash them before use. Maintain good hygiene habits.

Emergency measures

Skin contact: Immediately rinse with water for at least 15 minutes. If there are burns, seek medical treatment.

Eye contact: Immediately lift the eyelids and rinse with flowing water or saline solution for at least 15 minutes.

Inhalation: Remove from the scene to a place with fresh air. If necessary, perform artificial respiration. Seek medical attention.

Ingestion: If ingested by mistake, rinse mouth immediately and drink milk or egg white. Seek medical attention.
